Dr. Trudy T.  Arriaga has served as a committed educator to cultural proficiency for all students and their families for over 40 years.  She started her career in the Ventura Unified School District in Ventura, California as a bilingual para-educator and ended her career in the same district as the superintendent. She recently co-authored her first book, Opening Doors: An Implementation Template for Cultural Proficiency with her esteemed colleague and mentor, Dr. Randy Lindsey.  She is currently working on her second book as she explores the topic of women in leadership with a culturally proficient lens. Trudy travels throughout the United States working with districts and their journeys towards equity, inclusion and excellence for every individual.
Trudy will share the journey of transforming districts from unintentionally participating in practices that marginalize students and their communities to being committed and successful in making the education of all students a common priority.  Trudy will demonstrate how to apply the tools of cultural proficiency in schools and districts as we challenge ourselves to ensure that our actions reflect our values.  Join this inspirational session as we engage in a common vision to escort students and their communities through open doors.
