Michelle Center is the Director for the Assessment Development and Administration Division of the California Department of Education (CDE). She has worked her entire career in assessments including licensure, personnel, and K-12 large scale assessments. Michelle holds a masters’ degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and has worked for CDE since 2001. Michelle was instrumental in crafting the vision of the California Assessment System including drafting many components of Assembly Bill 484 establishing the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and the Superintendent’s Recommendations Report on the Future of the Assessment System. She serves as Chair of the Smarter Balanced Executive Committee and oversees the implementation of Smarter Balanced Assessments as well as other statewide assessments in California.
